• Analog mixer: The classic DJ mixing tool. Functions without laptop, (hence analog). The mixer combines the signal from two sound sources into one.
    Audio Interface (Soundcard): External Soundcard which generates the actual sound. Possesses a number of input and output channels.
    Beatmatching: Aligning the BPM and synchronising sounds from 2 different tracks
    BPM: Beats per Minute, the tempo of the track.
    Controller: User interface for software.
    Crossfader: Sliding controller between 2 sound signals

    Effekts (FX): Altering of the track using (e.g.) Filter, Delay, Reverb
    Equalizer (EQ): Important mixing tool for the DJ. Mostly 3 rotating knobs (Hi, Mid, Low) per channel. Through the skilful increasing or decreasing of frequency levels between two tracks a smooth mix can be made.
    Line-In: Commonly used name for sound input into a soundcard or mixer.

    Phono-In: an inaudible output signal, which must be amplified accordingly. A Phono In is an indication that a device has a phono pre-amp inserted.
    Pitching: Changing the pitch by speeding up or slowing down the track
    Shortcuts: Special (keyboard) assignments which save time in operating software.
